Flares from the beyond

Posted in Uncategorized on March 29, 2008 by abraxus

Hiya folks,

Just wanted to fire off a Flare to let folks know there was still some life over here. We’re down two full time people in the Kitchen at work right now so it’s been pretty ridiculous. By way of example, we were at $16k in Sales when I left tonight at 8 P.M. which is pretty busy for us on the weekend, not a record but definitely busy. Tomorrow (Sunday) there are usually 7 of us to ‘repair’ the damage from the Saturday night rush. But those two people we are missing are Sunday folks so that leaves Five of us to fix 16k+ worth of sales. Wee.

Finally managed to lay hands on a copy of Final Fantasy Crisis Core for the PSP yesterday. EB Games let me down big time. Turned out the game WAS in stores on the date I previously mentioned just not in this EB Games because their Shipment got missed. Not only did it not show up on time…it got missed for another 3 bloody Days! So I asked my wife to check at the Department Store where she works and sure enough there it was. So as much as I want to support stores like EB Games over the Big Box Retailers I asked her to get it.

Start your PSPs!

Ah the heady days of Spring how they move me to action. Allow me to share with you what could very well be the most significant thing I do for the next 2 weeks. That most wondrous of franchises with the MOST foolish name in Gaming History (arguable but it sounds good) Final Fantasy! Crisis Core comes out tomorrow. I’d squee but I’m to macho.

Up until now my favorite game for the PSP has been Warhammer 40K Squad Command but no longer I say! Of course that being said I will probably not like the *SMACK*…sorry sorry, can’t believe I almost said that.

Oh..and while I have you here readers…What The Fuck…is wrong with Amazon.com? Kindle is not available outside the United States? What kind of stupid shit is that? I realize there are probably distribution laws causing most of this problem but for fucks sake people…I am SO very sick of running into this crap every time something interesting comes out. ITunes Canada, no Downloadable American TV shows or Movies for you Mr. Canadian! Old Navy, We currently do not ship outside the United States from our Online Store you silly Canuck!

The ONLY thing this does is force me to go underground to get the things I want. And in 97% of cases I succeed, so yeah, you go with your Legal Crap and see how far it gets you when half your country is laughing at your regulations and getting the things they want anyway.

Oh and someone with more Tech Experience might want to explain to me how do do Cuts…so I can spare a whole screen of me babbling. Thanks!

Guest Blogging!

So my good friend over at Pandora’s Box is taking flight to see the world in all its glory in the coming days and I have volunteered my services along with some of her other frequent Blog Associates (I like that term I think I shall keep it). I find now that I have moved my Blog over here to WordPress that I am having much more fun with it in general so I am happy to lend a hand in keeping the Posts coming to Pandora who is a part of the Blog 365 Challenge this year.

Blogging along with me in Pandora’s SandBox are Yoshi as well as Daniel thus far. We will unleash much chaos upon Pandora’s Box while she is away. And yes..that does sound bad.

Edit to Add: Colin is also joining us in our effort to keep Pandora’s Box stuffed (I planned that one, I figure if I have a theme going I’ll stick with it eh?)

What is the world coming to?

Generally I stay away from Political issues as a show of respect for my..well lack of respect for anything Political but something on the news this past week caught my eye. Over in Tibet right now there are people protesting the beating of protesters in a political demonstration. So what do the Tibetan Police do? They beat the protesters protesting the beating of the other protesters. Now I am the first to admit I found the situation mildly amusing (damn you Simpsons and South Park!) but in retrospect it opened my eyes to my own apathy towards Political issues.

Back in the day Demonstrations were a legitimate means for the public to communicate to their government when they felt their local representatives were not acting as the peoples mouthpiece and that was fine. But now I see that the Politicians themselves have become apathetic towards Protesters to the point that the Demonstrations are more for the benefit of the people gathered together under a common banner. As if to say “Yes we all agree that something needs to be done but really are the Politicians even paying attention anymore?”

You can’t go a day reading the newspaper or watching it on TV without hearing about a Demonstration or Protest Rally somewhere in the world. I just don’t see them having any effect whatsoever any longer.

If you poke something long enough it gets angry, if you poke it even longer it just becomes immune to the input. That’s what has happened to the power of Demonstrations I think. It’s no longer, “Wow look at all these people! Let’s find out what has their knickers so twisted!” it has become “Oh great…another useless protest, how late is this going to make me for work?”

You won’t see much of this on my Blog, I just thought I’d splurge today. Thanks for reading if you got this far!

Quality Assurance (96.7)

It’s that time of the year again at the Restaurant. Every few months they send us an ‘expert’ to assess whether or not we are doing things correctly with proper food safety procedures and such like. It’s a pain in the ass and I have to say that I resent it more than a little bit. This guy comes in, checks on our prep, temps etc etc and watches us over a dinner service to ensure things are going out correctly and properly plated. That’s all he does, one dinner service. And based on that we get our mark out of 100. We scored a 96.7 this year which is about what we usually do.

Be that as it may it chafes my hide that based on one evening he is allowed to judge us. Since I don’t want to rant all over the place I’ll leave it at that. So yeah, we did well, Management is pleased and that is all that matters to me in the end.

My friend Pandora mentioned to me last night in her Blog that today is Pi Day! So Happy Pi Day folks! Also in Japan it is White Day which my wife and I actually do celebrate. Briefly Valentines in Japan is for the Girls to buy the Boys Chocolates and such and one month later to the day White Day is when the Boys return the favor and buy the Girls the goodies. So I brought Christina a nice arrangement of white lily’s and other complimentary colors to go along with some white chocolate cookies (theme eh?).

Next week I am losing one of my days off, well half of it anyway. Not too pleased with that but I understand the reason why so I am not raising hell about it as I normally would.

Quick (I hope) Update

Well there isn’t too terribly much going on around here today, it’s a chilly +2 outside but I’ll take it. Today, as I am sure most every human creature knows, is new DVD day at your local retailer and I am a collector of my Favorite things. Today I picked up Naruto Volume 21, Hitman, Stargate: Ark of Truth and Appleseed: Ex Machina. I got an excellent deal on Stargate and Hitman though, the store I went to had them mis-priced so I paid a total of $26 for BOTH DVDs. Yay me!

My good deed for the day was to help out a fellow in the Self-Checkout at Wal-Mart by loaning him some change to finish off his payment, poor guy was missing a whopping $0.45. You’d think I’d just given him the answer to life the universe and everything or something…but that’s only 42 not 45.

In the mail I got Part I of Blood+ and a spiffy T-Shirt which Christina quickly appropriated for herself. I had gotten a little nervous about that one because when I went to the Amazon.com site last night to check on the status of the shipment it said there were no outstanding shipments or pending orders. Thankfully that was only because it was sitting in my Mailbox already.

That’s my day so far!

Oddity

For an as yet indeterminate reason today I am sad. Perhaps melancholy is a good description of what I am feeling today. This is rare for me, usually I am a fairly ‘even’ person emotionally. This could be due in large part to the self-sacrificing nature that I sport which does not often allow me to burden others with my issues.

Earlier today my wife phoned me from work with good news, God of War – Chains of Olympus is out for the PSP now and she thought I might want it ( I do! ) so she called to confirm that. In my mind I was saying, “Please stay on the phone with me for a little while.” but of course what I said was, “Thank you honey, don’t let me keep you from your work.”

What really cranks my wheel is that when I go back to work in 30 minutes I will be my normal self to everyone there, the amusing smart-ass joker that everyone loves to work with. Four hours later I will get home, pick Christina up from Hap Ki Do and probably not even mention how I feel right now because in most cases it has more than passed by then.

Oh and in other news. Vista is an Idiot..but a crafty idiot… the learning curve is slowly being overcome.
